Container: 12 ounce glass bottle
Ingredients: Carbonated Water, sugar caramel color, sodium benzoate, natural flavor, and citric acid

Sugars: 30 g
Caffeine: No

So when I went to Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store (aka the Big Yellow Barn), I bought too many bottles of root beer to bring back with me in my suitcase. Not willing to give up on the unopened bottles, I left a box behind and had my mom mail it out to Connecticut for me (thanks Mom!). This is the first one out of the box. I previously reviewed Cicero’s Salted Caramel Root Beer and was not impressed, which was too bad because I was really looking forward to that one. This one, however, is much better. I like the flavor a lot. It’s not your run-of-the-mill root beer. It’s very unique and complex. Definitely try this one out instead of the salted caramel one.

Tyler the Kid Sarsaparilla

Producer: Rocket Fizz Soda Pop and Candy Shops, LLC, Camarillo, CA
Obtained At: Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store
Container: 12 ounce glass bottle
Ingredients: Spring water, cane sugar, caramel color, natural flavor, real vanilla, citric acid
Calories: 180
Sugars: 45g
Caffeine: No

I have never heard of this one before. The label says it’s made by Rocket Fizz, which is cool. I didn’t realize they made so many kinds of soda. I have already reviewed their Rocket Fizz Root Beer Float, which was disappointing. The label here is actually quite entertaining. The picture of Tyler is funny and next to his face it says “Last seen in Nevada headed toward Virginia City.” I’m not sure why I find that amusing. The taste is good. It has a solid sarsaparilla taste and is overall a very good drink. If you like sarsaparilla, try this one out.

Death Valley Sarsaparilla

Producer: Indian Wells Brewing Co., Inyokem, CA

Container: 12 ounce glass bottle
Ingredients: Carbonated water, sugar, citric acid, caramel color, natural & artificial flavor, phosphoric acid
Calories: 170
Sugars: 42g
Caffeine: No

Here’s another sarsaparilla from Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store. This is made by Indian Wells Brewing Company, who also makes a Special Reserve Root Beer I previously reviewed. I have never had this sarsaparilla by them, but I have had their Death Valley Root Beer before. Unfortunately, I have yet to review that one because I haven’t been able to find it since I started this site. I like the label for this. It is an “old west” theme that matches their root beer. The flavor is really good. It is very root beer-y and has a lot of head. This is probably one of the best sarsaparillas I’ve ever had.

Big Ben’s Fast Draw Sarsaparilla!

041-big-bens-fast-draw-sarsaparilla

Producer: Catawissa Bottling Co., Catawissa, PA
Obtained At: Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store
Container: 12 ounce glass bottle
Ingredients: Carbonated water, sugar and/or corn sweetener, natural and artificial color, caramel, citric acid, and preserved with sodium benzoate
Calories: 110
Sugars: 27
Caffeine: No

I have tried Big Ben’s Root Beer! before, but never their sarsaparilla. I came across this at Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store and had to pick it up. Coincidentally, this is also my first sarsaparilla review. I’m not entirely sure what all the differences are between sarsaparilla and root beer. Maybe I’ll look into that again. The label is unlike any other. The background is purple and the font is weird. The exclamation point is random as well, but at least they’re excited about it. The taste is good. It is really light. There isn’t a lot of head or fizz. It almost has a minty flavor to me, which is weird because there probably isn’t any mint flavor in it. But overall this is a very good sarsaparilla. Try it out!

III Dachshunds Old Fashioned Root Beer

040-iii-dachshunds-old-fashioned-root-beer

Producer: III Dachshunds Beer
Obtained At: Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store
Container: 12 ounce glass bottle
Ingredients: Triple filtered carbonated water, cane sugar, caramel color, natural and artificial flavors, maltodextrin, citric acid, sodium benzoate
Calories: 120
Sugars: 45
Caffeine: No

This is another one of the root beers I have seen online for years but never been able to get in my hands. It’s at pretty much every online store I’ve looked at I think, but somehow it never ends up in my shopping chart when I check out. Well, all that changed when I saw it at Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store. I like the label. It has a dog on it and the phrase “Time for a Treat.” It also has a story on it about dachshunds and the founding of the company, which is something I always enjoy reading about on the label. The taste is average. Good, but nothing exciting. It is fairly smooth but has an aftertaste that is just a little weird for me. Overall it is a good drink and worth a try.
